More educated online daters are more likely to positively assort. Abstract To identify the factors that influence educational assortment in an online dating setting, we analyse , participant contacts by 41, members of the Australian online dating web site RSVP over a four-month period. Consistent with prior research, we find that more educated online daters are consistently likely to assort positively homogamy meaning that they are more likely to contact potential mates with the same level of education. However, as the more educated cohort gets older they care less about homogamy while less educated daters become more interested in homogamy which leads to an increase in similarity towards caring for the same educational level. On the other hand, older and more educated online daters are less likely to contact those with lower educational levels compared to their own while women are more likely to contact a potential mate with higher educational levels relative to their own hypergamy. Our interaction analysis also reveals fewer differences in educational hypergamy among older online participants but a greater likelihood of online daters contacting mates with lower levels of education among younger males and older females. Further research is therefore warranted on technology’s impact on human mating behaviour; in particular, the psychology employed by humans using the Internet to maximize their chances of matching their educational preferences in a mate.

Yes, Race Matters In Online Dating

Specifically, a new study suggests that online dating might be responsible for several spikes in interracial marriages throughout the last 20 years or so, which has potentially huge implications for the health of our society more broadly. The first spike that coincides with the launch of a dating app occurred in , shortly after Match. Interracial marriages have increased in concert with the rise of specific dating apps.

A similar increase in interracial marriages occurred in , two years after the launch of Tinder, the study says. Tweet According to Ortega and Hergovich, this increase in interracial marriages likely has to do with a fundamental difference in the way online dating works when compared to meeting people in real life. In short, online dating gives us access to people entirely outside our existing friend networks, which makes the likelihood of meeting someone of a different race much higher.

The fact that the term “interracial dating” exists just proves that it is an issue to date outside your race. There is no reason why you should let society’s biased views keep you from dating the man or woman of your dreams just because he/she is outside of your race.

Open Access funded by The Gulf Organisation for Research and Development Under a Creative Commons license Abstract The cement industry faces a number of challenges that include depleting fossil fuel reserves, scarcity of raw materials, perpetually increasing demand for cements and concretes, growing environmental concerns linked to climate change and an ailing world economy.

Improved production methods and formulations that reduce or eliminate CO2 emissions from the cement manufacturing process are thus high on the agenda. Emission reduction is also needed to counter the impacts on product cost of new regulations, green taxes and escalating fuel prices. In this regard, locally available minerals, recycled materials and industry, agriculture and domestic waste may be suitable for blending with OPC as substitute, or in some cases replacement, binders.

Fly ash, Blast furnace slag and silica fumes are three well known examples of cement replacement materials that are in use today that, like OPC, have been documented and validated both in laboratory tests and in practice. The first is a by-product of coal combustion, the second of iron smelting and the third of electric arc furnace production of elemental silicon or ferro silicon alloys.

This paper presents a concise review of the current state-of-the-art and standards underpinning the production and use of OPC-based cements and concretes. It outlines some of the emerging green alternatives and the benefits they offer. Many of these alternatives rely on technological advances that include energy-efficient, low carbon production methods, novel cement formulations, geopolymers, carbon negative cements and novel concrete products.

Finally, the economics of cement production and the trends in the UK, US and the Gulf Cooperation Council GCC Region are presented, to help guide and inform future developments in cement production based on maximizing the value of carbon reduction. Previous article in issue.

Click to share on Reddit Opens in new window So you want to date a black girl? And, sorry to break it to you, interracial dating does not fit that standard of normal! But let us not forget that just 50 years ago interracial marriage was illegal in many states. It was only in that laws banning interracial marriage were deemed unconstitutional. Long after this ruling, interracial couples were still harassed and discriminated against.

And, yes, it still happens to interracial couples today.

In short, online dating gives us access to people entirely outside our existing friend networks, which makes the likelihood of meeting someone of a different race much higher.

As much as we like to think that America is a postracial society, Americans still prefer to date someone from their race. He found that, indeed, most people very rarely strayed beyond their own ethnicity in reaching out to potential dates. And if they did, they were less likely to get a response than from people of their same race. White folks, both male and female, overwhelmingly made more contact with whites, which is hardly surprising since there are more white people on the site to choose from.

White folks were the most likely to seek out people of another race. Minority groups those who identify themselves on OKCupid as black, Hispanic, Indian or Asian were much more likely to stay in their own racial lane when in search of mates online. They were more likely to respond to white guys too, but then again, all races were most likely to respond to white guys. Lewis found that once people had been approached by somebody from a different race, or had gotten a response from one, they were more likely to initiate contact or respond to someone from that race in future interactions.

And the groups who did the most in-race dating were the groups who showed most marked change. But the first contact seemed to be a key event. This would explain why white people, who are likely to have experienced the least racial discrimination, feel most comfortable about crossing the ethnic line. But, says Lewis, his data suggests that if someone — more likely a man, according to the data — makes the first move, and overcomes his fear of rejection, online daters realize the pool of potential partners may be wider and richer than they had previously imagined, and they tend to initiate more interracial contacts and to respond to ones that come their way more often.

Lewis is the first to admit that the study is small and has obvious limitations. Subscribe Popular Among Subscribers.

Online dating is now one of the most common way that people find partners. As a result, online dating platforms provide a broad and detailed view of the pursuit of mates.

Advanced Search Abstract A drawback to research on interracial couplings is that it almost exclusively studies heterosexual relationships. However, compelling new evidence from analyses using the Census shows that interracial relationships are significantly more common among the gay population. It is unclear how much of this reflects weaker racial preference or more limited dating markets.

This paper examines the interactions of white gay and straight online daters who have access to a large market of potential partners by modeling dyadic messaging behaviors. Results show that racial preferences are highly gendered, and do not line up neatly by gay or straight identity. White lesbians and straight men show the weakest same-race preference, followed by gay men, while straight women show the strongest same-race preference. Put differently, minority men are discriminated to a greater degree than minority women in both same-sex and different-sex dating markets.

These results suggest that white gay men’s higher rates of interracial cohabitation are driven more by constrained dating markets, while lesbians’ appear to be driven by more open racial preferences. For permissions, please e-mail:
